The Willink School

Mr P FryA warm welcome to The Willink School. Thank you for your interest in our school. Choosing the right school for your son or daughter is one of the most important decisions you will make.

The Willink is a dynamic learning community whose ethos is encapsulated in the phrase “village school, global outlook”. Our successful track record is based on an approach which combines the highest expectations with sensitivity to learners’ individual needs, concentrates on developing and maintaining the very best standards of learning and teaching, and takes every opportunity to recognise and reward achievement.

Our standards are always well above national averages, but over the last few years examination results have steadily risen such that the school is now acknowledged as one of the highest achieving schools in the region. Students across the ability range are well catered for including gifted and talented children and those with special needs. In 2014 87% of our students gained 5+A*-C grades at GCSE (74% including English and Mathematics), our best set of results ever and once again the school was one of the top performing schools in Berkshire. At A Level a third of grades achieved were A*/A and 60% of grades were A*-B: progress of students in our Sixth Form exceeds local institutions and matches the top 25% nationally. Each year the Willink sends a large contingent to the UK’s top Russell Group universities including Oxbridge. This year three students have secured places for Oxford or Cambridge in September 2015.

There is a very happy atmosphere at Willink. It is genuinely a place where young people of every talent and aptitude can thrive and blossom. We do aim to develop every child’s potential; to build on strengths; to encourage our students to be well-disciplined, polite and considerate, well-motivated and compassionate. We are very proud of the confident, skilled and ambitious students who leave us. These qualities are the result of the opportunities that derive from our broad curriculum and innovative approach.

The school was last inspected in February 2014. It was judged to be good school with outstanding features. The Inspection Report, which can be found under the “Our School” tab on our website, noted high achievement, a rising trend in achievement across the ability, good and outstanding teaching, outstanding behaviour and strength in leadership at middle and senior level and governance. The examination results in 2014 re-enforce this view and show strong sustained outcomes for our students. Our aim now is simply to continue to strive for excellence in everything we do so we provide the very best education for our young people.

Please do make an appointment to visit us during the school day when members of the school community will be pleased to show you around. I look forward to welcoming you to The Willink School.

Peter Fry,
