The Willink School

The Willink School

Christmas fair

Welcome to the new school term from the Willink Parent Teachers Association. We have a lot of events and activities planned this term. But we are always looking for new ideas and contributors so why not join the team?

In this issue

In 2016, in line with the school’s business priorities, we set a goal of funding three sets of interactive whiteboards and projectors, each costing £1600.

With thanks to generous grants of £1500 from the AWE and £1000 from the James Ballantyne Memorial Fund, plus the generosity and support of parents and teachers, we’re delighted to announce that WE HAVE ACHIEVED OUR GOAL!

The new equipment will be located in the maths and science  classrooms in line with the objective of the grants – which is to encourage the development of all students in STEM subjects.

Projectors have become essential in the classroom: in many ways they have replaced chalk!  They allow pre-prepared resources to be displayed (and not always printed) with ease which has affected the way students learn and take notes.  An Interactive whiteboard serves as both a presentation tool and an opportunity for students to interact with their learning through technology.  Students like using them!  It helps them to engage with their learning in a different way.

We will continue to make small contributions and fund the requests of staff members where possible.

Car Boot Sales – Saturday 13th May, 10th June, 8th July

We have three Car Boot sales coming up this year – the first of which is happening on Sat 13th May. Then Sat 10th June and Sat 8th July to follow. Pitches are £10

This is an ideal opportunity to clear out your unwanted items and make some money. Crafts or produce stalls and fundraisers also welcome!  Please support the school and PTA

And if you don’t want to sell – come along and bag a bargain. It’s free to attend and there will be refreshments available!

The PTA committee – helpers needed urgently!!

We desperately need more helpers to join the committee. Without some new blood we are struggling to run the events that are so needed to fund the equipment and activities your children benefit from.

With transition in mind we are looking for more year 7 and 8 parents to get involved. If you can spare a few hours a term, please do join us!

How you can get involved

Our meetings are roughly each half term, and we try to mix it up with the occasional curry night or pub meeting, as well as regular meetings in the sixth form block. Mums, dads and teachers all welcome!

We know it’s easy once your children are at secondary school to take a step back from parental involvement. But in today’s current environment, the PTA is fulfilling a vital role in helping to equip the school with services and equipment that help your child to have the best education possible.

If you can’t make the meetings but are happy to help out at events, we’d love to hear from you too.
