KEY STAGE 3 INFORMATION
KS3 Course Information
Pupils study either French or Spanish in Year 7 and 8. Teaching and learning are carried out using the 'immersion' method, where students are trained to communicate solely in the foreign language. In Year 8 and Year 9 students study German as a second language.
The topics studied at KS3 are Family, Home, School, Leisure activities, In and around town, Food and Drink, Body parts and Illnesses, Holidays, Environment and Daily routine.

KS3 Exam Information
At the end of every half-term pupils sit Milestone Assessments and are assessed on two of the four skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing) in their first language, and assessed on one skill in their second language.
Students are expected to be enthusiastic, engaged and converse only in the target language. Very quick progress is made through the immersion method.
Keystage 4 information
KS4 Course Information
Every pupil studies at least one language at Key Stage 4. If pupils select their second language as an option, they study two languages.
The themes studied at KS4 are: Identity and Culture, Local,national,international and global areas of interest, Current and future study and employment
KS4 Exam Information
All students take a GCSE exam at the end of Year 11 (AQA). There are 5 components to the course: listening, reading, writing, speaking and translation. All skills are examined at the end of year 11.
Students are expected to apply themselves and work hard from day 1 as teachers will continue to apply immersion principles as in KS3.
Keystage 5 Information
Key Stage 5 Course Information
Students have the option of studying French, German and Spanish at AS (Year 12) and A2 level (Year 13). The themes studied in the first year are Aspects of society in France, Spain or Germany, and Artistic culture in the French / Spanish / German-speaking world. Students will also study a cultural topic: at AS level usually a film and at A2 usually a book.
All our 6th Form students studying languages have regular sessions with our language FLAs or a member of staff so that all our students can gain confidence , further practice and fluency in their speaking.
KS5 Exam Information
AQA: Students are assessed on the four skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing, including open ended tasks that require pupils to express and justify opinions. Students are also tested on their understanding and application of grammar and linguistic structures.
Students are expected to be independent in their learning as well as attending and fully participating in all class-based lessons.
